Just like the restless sea my mind is spinning these days... in search of answers. Yet, with every answer more questions surface.

I am wondering what the point of all this is. Can I really post another smoothie bowl or cookie recipe while the world is facing a never-ending stream of problems WE ourselves have caused? Food waste and overconsumption over here, while hunger & poverty still exist. Countries making the same mistakes we "westerners" made years ago. A plastic collapse destroying our oceans and biodiversity. The urge to always grow, sell more, buy more, achieve more, own more. And then, self-optimisation in every aspect of life as an industry - which I highly doubt is actually helping us live more mindful lives. Where is the compassion? Where is the honest concern for the people in our surroundings? The care for our planet, future generations?

Yes, call me a pessimist (today). But I am exhausted. It's just hard to stay positive. And to find the strength to continue voicing my ideas & concerns (in a non-accusing way) no matter where I go or whom I talk to, not just here on social media.

The more I shift to topics that actually move me the less people I reach. Not that I care about the number of followers, I've left that mindset far behind me. But it does make me wonder: how is it that so many people don't want to draw conclusions from the obvious? With information available everywhere for free? Why do they continue to purchase products from mass animal farming despite knowing both the cruelty and climate effects behind it - just cause it's oh-so-delicious? Shopping new clothes every week cause it's just so much fun, or even worse, wearing a feminist t-shirt that's most likely been sown by an exploited woman in a sweatshop far far away. Finding the to-go lunch options packaged in single-use plastics just way too convenient to give up. But sure, we simply don't have enough time to think about all this - despite all the handy tools we use for self-organisation... It's like everyone's running on autopilot without questioning what's going on. 👇🏼 Continued in the comments below.

Awesome! Now that I have your attention let me talk about the #fridaysforfuture #climatestrike I attended here in Berlin today. Over 20.000 school kids skipped classes in order to take a stand against climate change. Not only here but all over the world! I wish I would have been so cool (and aware) when I was their age.

It was such a powerful experience to be part of this crowd. Supported by #scientists4future, teachers, parents etc. we marched from #Invalidenpark to the #Kanzleramt demanding change regarding the way we generate and use energy, produce and consume our food, use our resources in general and move from A to B. Some of the youngest were yelling the loudest. Check my stories for more on this.

Happy Sunday lovelies! I've had the best weekend so far finally catching up with some dear friends, moving my weekend shopping to @markthalleneun for a little change, dining super late Italian style and spending all Sunday morning in bed with a great book. 
After indulging last night (bread with truffled olive oil and lots of pasta & wine 🥖🍝🍷) I felt like something green today! #balanceiskey So decided to make this luscious #greensmoothie and it turned out oh so delicious!

Long time no #markethaul picture! 😊 Despite the grey and rainy February weather I put on my coat and warm boots to shop #plasticfree at my local farmers' market and #zerowaste store @dersachewegen (*Werbung/ad, not sponsored) today.

I got some lovely veggies, citrus fruit and apples as well as fresh mint & coriander which totally spike up every winter meal! At the store I stocked up on some organic & fair spices, oats, flax seeds and got the two "spotty grapefruits" - still perfect if you ask me. Not pictured is the organic soy yogurt I bought cause it went straight into my fridge. It was even cheaper than the packaged version in my bio grocery store - so awesome to have yet another product available here! 🙌🏼 Do you try to avoid (plastic) packaging, too?

Messy breakfast bowl after my 7k run this morning at -4°C. I'm slowly easing back into a running routine. 👟💪🏼 I actually started out with 3.5k which is barely anything - but I believe any exercise is great for your body! 🙂 And every day is different after all. Do you run?

For this #adaptogenic porridge I used 5-grain flakes, gingerbread spice, #chaga powder, flax seeds, walnuts, coconut flakes, grated ginger and orange zest with oat milk. Toppings include #oatyogurt, #grapefruit filets, kiwi, #cacaonibs, #beepollen, hemp hearts and a generous drizzle of almond butter.

Simple yet delicious salad that I made back at home for the family and never got to share. 😅 Just threw together a bunch of random greens (#radicchio, #babyspinach & #endives), added fig and #persimmon slices and some #pomegranate. For the dressing I used extra virgin olive olive oil, pomegranate balsamic vinegar, a little water plus freshly ground salt & pepper. With the right ingredients there's no need for fancy recipes, right?

Happy new year my friends! 🎉🍾 🎆 I spent the last week pretty much offline. It all started somewhat involuntarily when, on Christmas Day, the Internet connection in our entire village failed. 😅 Besides the movie we didn't get to watch, it felt pretty good so that I decided to stay offline a little longer.

After eating all the great food over the last days (I'll be sharing some stories later about the vegan feast I prepared for my birthday party as well as last night's dinner) I'm craving all the greens - so green smoothie bowls are #onthetable today!

Ingredients: #dinokale, cauliflower greens (tough parts removed), #frozenpeas, fresh parsley, frozen banana, 1 small pear, lemon zest & juice, flax seeds, coconut yogurt

Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄💫 Enjoy your holidays, the hopefully delicious food and remember that it's totally okay to indulge. I sure will!

Here you can see a few variations of the whisky truffles from my blog. I make them every year on the 24th as a #lastminutegift. I've made countless variations of these such as maple whisky, orange, hazelnut nougat, caramel sea salt etc.

In the end it all comes down to the right ratio of ingredients so here's the one that works best for me:
· 100g of cooking chocolate (Werbung/ad: I always use buttons from @original_beans
or @gebana.official)
· 40-50g liquid (liquor, fruit juice etc.)
· 20g of fat (e.g. coconut oil)
· 15g vegan cream (I've used sour cream, homemade cashew cream and macadamia ricotta, oat creamer...)
Plus fancy add-ins such as real vanilla, tonka bean, bitter almond, orange zest, ground or chopped nuts etc. 👉 Check full method #onmyblog.

After shaping the truffles coat in cacao powder, coconut, nuts, dried flower petals or even more chocolate. Anything goes!

Birthday cake almost ready - hosting a little brunch to celebrate the big 30 with my friends today. This is my traditional #gugelhupf which I bake every year for Christmas. But since my birthday is so close to the holidays it's become a birthday favourite, too. 😅🎉👉 Recipe #onmyblog.

It's made with tons of applesauce and Christmas spices such as ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon & allspice. ❤ Over the years I've veganised the ingredients and cut down on sugar & oil. For the one I'm about to finish decorating today I used only 50g of raw cane sugar, 50g of #yaconsyrup and 100ml of rape kernel oil (and it's a big cake). I used hazelnuts instead of walnuts and the icing is made from vegan sour cream and raw cane icing sugar. That's why it's not a perfect white - but hey, who cares?

Festive-looking smoothie bowls! After weeks of porridge mornings I am back at craving greens! I always try to listen to my body's cravings and currently that's what it wants the most. Spinach, kale, green peas, broccoli - give me all of it!

Can you believe it's the second advent Sunday tomorrow already? I'd love to push the hold button for a little while. Despite Christmas music & decorations everywhere I really don't feel like December at all. Guess the rainy weather isn't helping.

Good morning everyone! 🌞 Back in Berlin again after more travelling. I'm not complaining though as I got to attend #EatingTheGap - an exciting event in Gent, Belgium, organised by @eiteu and @foodpairing / @food.unfolded.* [Werbung/ad, invitation]

The idea behind this was to gather key people of the food scene and raise awareness about the impact of plant-based diets as well as a reduction in food waste. Many new concepts & ideas were exchanged and I am so grateful for this opportunity to connect with like-minded people all across Europe.

You guys know I already am all for #plantbased and #zerowastekitchen but maybe I'm not telling you often enough why I do this: (1) Reducing the consumption of all animal products (yes, meat - but also fish, dairy & eggs!) is the single most efficient way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. At the moment, 80% of farmland is used to produce only 18% of our calories. We'll soon outgrow our planet to satisfy the demand for animal products, as our diets are a major driver of climate change, depletion of freshwater resources and pollution of our ecosystems. (2) Also, 35% of food is wasted along the value chain - imagine a car factory where every third car just gets dumped before making it out of the factory gate. Insane, isn't it? We need to start appreciating our produce more and challenge our thinking. There are so many ways to get more out of the food we're eating at home but obviously also (and especially) in gastronomy!

I feel like many people are overwhelmed by the possibilities. But really... you shouldn't be! Saying "nah, I'm just one person so I don't have an impact" or "it's all so complex, we don't really know what is the best way yet, so I'm not gonna change anything at all" are just excuses! Please don't feel intimidated by people leading extreme examples - instead let them inspire you to do something, anything. Baby steps are still steps in the right direction.
